Since Facebook changed their name to Meta, they have begun to spread their vision for the future of collaboration. Since then, the term “metaverse” is becoming more widely known. However, the history of the metaverse goes further back, since the term “metaverse” was first coined in the 1992 science fiction novel “Snow Crash” as a portmanteau of “meta” and “universe”. But what exactly is metaverse, and what is it for?
Let’s go back fifteen years. There was already a well-established metaverse called World of Warcraft. Millions of people on one platform, not only for gaming, but also to trade virtual goods, create social groups, attend online events, or just have a good time together. For years, it was the place to be! The metaverse will be something similar but with a business twist where people will be able to combine spontaneity, collaboration, and overall engagement, pushing the concept of online working to a whole new level.
NOW, WHAT KIND OF THINGS IS METAVERSE USED FOR?
The advantage of online events in metaverse compared to a regular video call is that several activities or lectures can take place at the same time, and the visitor decides what to attend from the program. The event will present a completely different virtual experience with interactive objects, collaborative workshops in various rooms, or a scavenger hunt during the break. You can also customize the entire space according to your brand guidelines to better represent the company’s values and identity.

"Avatars and the metaverse bring us one step closer to making people feel like they're together even when they are physically apart. Our early research shows that when compared audio-only call, people feel more engaged, more present, and even more comfortable when using an avatar in a meeting."

You can train employees or educate students in a fun way, even if it’s online (or a combination). Are some people unable to make it in person? Replicate a model of your educational space, so they feel like they are in the same place as the rest of the group. On top of that, fill the virtual space with media assets and make online learning more fun and engaging.
